This place in The Wheel of the Year (January) is about stirrings. It may look like nothing is happening but under the surface, is another story. Rumi wrote, “And don’t think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter. It’s quiet, but the roots are down there riotous.” Seeds are also stirring, preparing to burst open and grow into their full potential. Right now though, many are bound by their shells and things seem quiet.
Weaver’s stirring unbound is an homage to the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. Diana, the lead female character, is in a similar position. She is full of riotous possibility but has been spellbound for her protection. You may be able to relate. The very beginnings of a new idea, stepping into a new way of being or finding a new direction may just be a wispy shadow in the corner of your soul yet you can also feel the blocks to their manifestation. The what ifs.
A witch’s ladder is similar to a Muslim mishbaha or Catholic rosary, used in prayer for counting. As Dianna begins to practice her spell creating abilities she uses nine ribbons, tying knots at specific places as she works. The tyings are often connected to a chant. There are many versions. Most begin with some variation of “By knot of one, the spell’s begun”.
Over time the ribbons are no longer needed as she connects directly with her energy. Kitchenwands function the same way. A Kitchenwand is there to aid, support and remind that your energy is an ingredient of the finished dish. It is you, not the spoon making the difference.
We all have an innate ability to weave our own lives into being. Releasing and healing the bindings on the path, then allowing those stirrings to grow full and weave our best lives is part of what we are here to experience.
