Cranberry Sauce is a bit like shortbread cookies. Your family recipe is naturally the favourite. The other day though I was invited to a belated American Thanksgiving dinner with two different cranberry condiments. One was a traditional `sauce`made with white wine and curry. The second was a freshly grated uncooked option with oranges and nuts.
So I thought we could do a little I`ll show you mine if you…….. I’ll go first. This is the cranberry sauce recipe that always cuddles up next to the turkey and stuffing at our house. I have also made it with an added splash of orange flavoured liquor but I think it takes the fresh tart flavour away so I stick to orange juice.
You will need:
1-3 cup bag of fresh cranberries
1 cup sugar
1 cup fresh orange juice
Zest of an orange
In a pot, add the cranberries and all the ingredients.
Bring to a boil and allow to bubble until the popping startes.
Reduce temperature and cook a few minutes longer.
Transfer to jars and seal or store in the fridge until needed.
Don`t think of cranberry sauce as something just for turkey.
Flavour plain yoghurt with a tablespoon or so.
Add to whipped cream and use as a topping for cakes or warm it up and drizzle or spoon some over your favourite dessert.
Add to B-B-Q sauce to tweak a traditional flavour and also use as the base of a glaze for meats.
Use it as in ingredients in danish pastries and other sweet bread.
Cranberry sauce, one of the best parts of turkey dinner!
